
Local Tattyreagh men stepping up to the mark at the Walled City Marathon on Sunday last was Sean Darcy 4.23hrs, Niall McKnight, Nigel Mullan both 4.17hrs, and Adrian Harley 4.23hr. This the first marathon in the Maidan City for almost 30 years, were better to start their first 26.2mile marathon except Niall who has completed his 2nd marathon in the last month, his 1st in a time off 3.30hrs. All four boys who just took up the running bug just two years ago ran in aid of Foyle Hospice raising £2000 in memory of Nigel’s sister Sharon Daly who passed away in February 2010. The four now are turning their attention to Tatts 5 race this Saturday 8th kicking off at 11am with big numbers expected. Runners can regrister on Friday night from 5.30 to 7pm and from 9am on Saturday morning.
Omagh Harriers were also there in force with the injured Damien Cox coming back to some fine form with a time just inside 2.55hrs in 16th place getting 2nd over 40 prize. Terry Canning also carrying an injury got 29th place with a time of 2.59hrs. Richard Shannon getting a personal best time of 3.19hrs, knocking 6min off his Belfast marathon time from just a month ago. Other Omagh harriers competing were Glen Heaney 3.25hrs, Michael Ward 3.37hrs, Albert Law 3.47hrs, Bernie O’Donnell 3.50hrs, Darren Lawther 3.59hrs, Veronica Downey 4.07hrs, and Nuala Gallagher 4.17hrs. All now taking a few days rest before stepping down to the shorter distance in the Tattyreagh 5mile or 5km.
