
Omagh Harriers were out in force in the last few weeks with young Brian McGread running his best times ever after getting a 3.09min in Derry marathon back in May he then went down to the Jude Gallagher ‘Round the Bridges’ Limavady 10mile on 27th June and broke the 60min barrier with a 59.09min a fantastic achievement for someone not long into the sport.
Next up for the harriers was the Lisburn Half Marathon on 19th June were Derek Somerville claimed 1st over 45 male in a time of 1.25hrs. Patricia Campbell also claiming 2nd over 45 female in a time of 1.44hrs. Other Harrier runners competing the 13.1mile were John McCann, Emmet Murray, Sean Devlin, Peter O’Donnell, Niall Diamond, Ita Kelly, and Bernie ODonnell. Ards Half Marathon on 28th June was next up for Derek Somerville getting 22nd place with a time of 1.24hrs. Next day Saturday 29th was the Enniskillen 10k with over 1000 runners and Harriers Paul Barbour getting 4th spot in a fanastic time of 33.27min with Irvinestown’s Fergus McGirr just back at 8th place with time off 35min getting 1st over 35’s.
On Saturday 6th July last Omagh Harriers were packing into Strabane for their 10k with over 350 runners, and again Paul Barbour in top class running form claiming 1st place in a time of 33.18min closely followed by Pete Neill in 4th place with time 35min. Damian Cox and Pat McCrory getting 11th and 12th place in a time of 37.40min. Julie Butler coming into some good form getting 2nd Female in 39min behind Lifford AC Ann-Marie McGlyne winning in 37min.
Other Harriers racing were Glenn Warnock 40.45min, Terry McCullagh 42min, Sean McElroy 43min, Ita Kelly 47min and Bernie O’Donnell 50min. Next big race up for the Harriers is the very competitive Irvinestown 10k next Tuesday 16th July kicking off at 7pm from the Sports Complex on the Omagh Road. Also a big date to keep is the Omagh Harriers Magic Mile on 14th August at Youth Sport Omagh with warm up at 6pm. All runners are welcomed.
